LeamMD Phase 1

To make your weight loss experience effective and comfortable, we employ every available medical tool to help curb your appetite and optimize your metabolic function. As physicians, we are well equipped to help people with diabetes, hypertension, heart disease and other health issues lose weight healthfully. We’ll work collaboratively with your primary care physician and specialists to tailor the program to your particular circumstances. We’ve found that many patients are able to improve their laboratory results and reduce the medication needed to control their chronic conditions.

Your comprehensive weight loss consultation and examination initiates a three–phase process to help you achieve your goals: a weight loss phase, a transition phase, and a maintenance (sustainable loss) phase. Each phase is packed with value and interwoven into the next to seamlessly support you along your journey.

LeamMD Phase 2

THE LEANMD CARE TEAM

Medical Director -  is a physician who thoroughly understands the genetic, biological, environmental, social, and behavioral factors that contribute to obesity. The medical director’s  comprehensive approach to treatment includes diet, physical activity, behavior change, and pharmacotherapy.

Medical Providers – are either physicians, nurse practitioners or physician assistants who perform the initial metabolic consultation as well as the follow up consultation when you transition from weight loss to weight maintenance.

Mentors – are highly trained staff who meet with you weekly monitor your body composition. Mentors continuously consult with our Medical Providers regarding your progress and any issues that may arise.  Guiding you through each step of your wellness journey, mentors are your go-to resource for tips and strategies to make this a successful and positive experience for you.

LeamMD Phase 3

FDA APPROVED MEDICATIONS

To make the weight loss phase as comfortable and successful as possible, our physicians offer optional FDA approved appetite suppressant medications to help your body reduce its craving for calories while you learn how to eat smaller portions and be satisfied with less food. We carefully employ only medications with a long history of safe and effective use when paired with a structured weight loss program.

The LeanMD system is designed to be flexible and to work with your schedule. Remote weight monitoring and the option to conduct some visits by phone make the program both convenient and accessible for you.

A web–based LeanMD Wireless e–Scale in your home allows us to monitor your weight remotely for easy and convenient accountability on your part.

EXTREME CONVENIENCE

Remote weight monitoring plus the option of virtual appointments adds up to a program that is far more flexible and convenient for you!

COMPREHENSIVE SUPPORT

An ongoing partnership between you and the LeanMD Care Team, along with access to proven weight loss medications, ensures that you have the physical and mental support you need for as long as you need it.

EMPOWERING TOOLS AND TRAINING

Mindfulness teaches us to bring nonjudgmental awareness to our thoughts, feelings and behaviors. This leads to more choice, but does not in itself lead to reprogramming or installing of anything.

MEAL PLANNING SYSTEM

Many diet programs fail because they rely on pre-packaged meals or shakes, with no long-term strategy for maintaining your weight once the diet is over. In contrast, our program uses real, fresh food from the very beginning.  We’ll teach you how to prepare your own nutritious meals as well as how to navigate real world situations like traveling, parties, holidays and eating out. This, along with the other tools and support we provide, helps ensure that the weight you lose today stays gone tomorrow and into the future.

To keep meal planning as simple as possible for you, LeanMD has devised a proprietary meal planning system, complete with sample shopping lists for popular stores and 7-day menu plans.  Best of all, you’ll be enjoying real, fresh foods in real environments. No “diet foods” or calorie counting required!

RECIPES

Our recipe booklets are filled with delicious LeanMD tested and approved recipes.  Many are designed to serve just one or two, and all are suitable for the whole family.

SHOPPING GUIDE?

Our shopping and fast food guides provide lists of specific products at popular stores and restaurants, and can help you make wise decisions on the go.

Frequently Asked Questions

QUESTIONS ABOUT FOOD:

What will I be eating?

You will be eating real foods throughout the program. While you are actively losing weight you will be on a structured diet which is high in proteins and low in carbohydrates. Once your goal weight is obtained we will slowly transition you on to a well-rounded diet that also includes moderate amounts of healthy fats and complex carbohydrates.

How many calories am I allowed to eat?

This is customized for each individual based off their BMR (basal metabolic rate) but most female patients consume 800 calories daily, where as males typically get between 1000-1200 calories daily.

Will you provide the meals for me?

No, we do not sell foods or premade meals. Meal replacement programs do not teach you how to eat in the real world, and therefore are less effective in the long run. Our program will teach you how to estimate serving sizes, how to shop for food and prepare your meals. We will also provide useful tools and education on how to navigate challenging situations, like traveling, eating out, and surviving holidays and social events.

Does your program accommodate vegetarians or vegans?

Yes. We do have a modified diet for vegetarians/vegans and a large percentage of our recipes are vegetarian/vegan friendly.

QUESTIONS ABOUT THE DIET:

How much weight can I expect to lose?

Our patients lose an average of 2-5lbs every week. Women tend to lose 2-3 lbs, while men lose 3-5 lbs. Results may vary depending on your starting weight, medical conditions, exercise regimen and compliance with the program.

Are appetite suppressants or other prescription medications mandatory?

No, they are not. The appetite suppressants we prescribe help to curb hunger, but we have many patients on the program who do not take the medication and are equally successful.

Are the prescription appetite suppressants safe?

Yes. We only utilize medications that have been demonstrated to be safe and effective when paired with a structured diet.

Are there any requirements to participate in the program?

We see a wide variety of patients. Some may need to lose 10lbs and others may need to lose over 100lbs. There is no weight loss minimum or maximum. Many of our patients have chronic medical conditions such as diabetes, hypertension or heart condition and are eligible to participate in the program with minor restrictions at the medical provider’s discretion.

HEALTH QUESTIONS:

Can I participate in the program if I have medical conditions like, diabetes, hypertension or heart disease?

Yes. This is one of the main reasons for enrolling in a medically directed program. Obesity and being overweight can be contributing factors to many medical conditions, conditions that may sometimes be corrected with monitored weight loss. We have the all tools and procedures in place to ensure that your weight loss is done safely. Plus, we’ve noted the patients with these conditions end up with better laboratory numbers and often require less medication to control their chronic conditions.

If I have a chronic health condition, can I still take the appetite suppressant?

Yes, however this will be determined by the medical provider at the time of your initial consultation. Anyone who is: older than 65, has medical conditions and/or on other medications will be evaluated on a case by case basis to see if they are a candidate for the appetite suppressants.

Will I have to exercise to lose the weight?

Exercise is not a required component of the weight loss phase, however it is encouraged. Weight loss is achieved by calorie reduction. During the active weight loss phase, we recommend that you engage in light physical activity over the first few months. After you achieve your goal weight, we’ll help design an exercise program tailored to your interest and lifestyle. This will help you maintain both your weight and cardiovascular health.

GENERAL QUESTIONS:

Is your weight loss program covered by insurance?

No. We do not bill or assist with billing insurance for the weight loss program. However, we do accept all major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express and FSA Cards), personal checks and cash.

Why will this diet work better than other diets I’ve tried before?

First, it’s important to realize that you are not alone. Research shows that 80% of people who lose a lot of body weight (10% or more) are unable to maintain that loss for even one year. Typically this is because the diet is over and the body tends to rebound into a mode of aggressive fat storage. In order to counteract this tendency, the LeanMD program includes a transition phase in which we gradually and carefully adjust your calories and macronutrient ratios according to your specific needs. This gives your body a chance to adjust to its “new normal” and avoid rebounding once the flow of calories increases.
Second, the chances of sustaining your new weight long term will be vastly improved if you have support. Our Sustainable Loss Program is specifically designed to provide an easy, built-in system of accountability and support, plus tools and techniques to ensure your ongoing success.

What happens if I do gain weight? Can I restart the program?

Yes.  Your body wasn’t designed to survive indefinitely on special foods or will power. When it comes to losing weight and keeping it off, fad diets just don’t cut it. We believe that a sustainable diet and lifestyle changes are the only way to succeed in maintaining your weight loss and your health. If you do gain weight over time, we can always restart you on the program to help you get back on track.
